Dr. Jim Richards to Speak at Jacksonville College Manley Distinguished Lecture Series

Jacksonville College invites the community to experience Revelation: The Best is Yet to Come with author Dr. Jim Richards, executive director of the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention (SBTC). Dr. Richards presents the book of Revelation as a love letter to the church at the Thirty-ninth Annual Manley Distinguished Lecture Series on Tuesday, October 28 at 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday, October 29 at 9:30 a.m. in Buckner Chapel on the Jacksonville College campus.  Admission is free to the public.

According to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary President Paige Patterson, Dr. Richards makes Bible prophecy relevant to today’s society, giving pastors a guide for preaching from Revelation and giving laymen “a quick feel for what the Apocalypse is all about.” On one hand, Richards discusses the worldwide, rampant violence occurring today and predicts its increase while on the other hand, he describes Christ’s return as “a sweet promise to those who know Him.”

Dr. Richards’s education includes two undergraduate degrees, a Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis. He is a Distinguished Alumnus of both seminaries. The Criswell College in Dallas awarded Dr. Richards the Doctor of Divinity in 2013.  He has ministered in all 50 states and 20 countries, serving as pastor and director of missions, preaching at seminary chapel services, speaking at pastors conferences, state conventions, and the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). He has served the Southern Baptist Convention on various committees and boards, including First Vice President of the SBC.

Dr. Richards has authored books, written for numerous periodicals and newspapers, and currently writes a column in the Southern Baptist TEXAN, the news journal of the SBTC.         Dr. Richards has served as SBTC Executive Director since the organization formed in 1998. Jacksonville College is affiliated with the STBC.

Dr. Richards will lead the prayer of dedication during the Dedication Service for the STBC Dorm at Jacksonville College immediately following the Manley Distinguished Lecture on October 29.
